Master of Education in Educational Administration Online

The Master of Educational Administration Online is designed for certified teachers in South Carolina who aspire to move up from the classroom, into principal or administrative positions, and make an even greater difference for their students, schools and communities.

This M.Ed. focuses on the theoretical and practical aspects of principalship and administration necessary to advance into leadership positions. Courses are taught by professors who are accomplished in their prior roles as superintendents, principals and high-level administrators. Each one is committed to teaching you the leadership methods they helped to develop.

Online Courses

Program courses

A survey of basic principles of school administration, the conceptual and structural organization of public education, and the educational governance at the federal, state, and local levels.
A study of interpersonal relations and communication within an educational organization and between the school and the community.
Personnel management in the public schools with attention to such issues as teacher supply, recruitment, selection, staff development, supervision, teacher welfare, legal rights/liabilities of school personnel.
An introduction to the functioning of an educational supervisor. Emphasis on the improvement of instruction and instructional programs.
Financial and business management functions of school administration. Local/state/national funding issues, economics and politics of school finance, budget preparation, accounting/auditing/plant operation/maintenance from school level. Prerequisites: At least two of the following: EDLP 700, 701, 702, 703
Emphasis on techniques of legal research, the legal relationships between the federal and state government as they relate to school district organization and administration, as well as legal case studies in all major areas of administrative concern. Prerequisites: At least two of the following: EDLP 700, 701, 702, 703
Principles, problems, competencies, and practices involved in the administration of schools. Prerequisites: Completion 15 hours of EDLP courses; coreq: one of EDLP 707A/B, 708A/B, or 709A/B

Recommended courses

9 Semester Hours are required from a group of related courses. Courses will be determined with an adviser, but recommended courses are: EDCS 725, EDRM 700 or EDRM 723, EDEX 523 or EDPY 705.

Presentation of methods and procedures to design, develop, implement, and evaluate curricula.
Concepts and methods of conducting research in education.
Emphasis in the linkages between curriculum, instruction, and assessment, and the development of assessments for learning outcomes. Methods include observations, interviewing, performance assessments, portfolios, and classroom tests.
Overview of the field of education for exceptional children. Basic course for those entering the field of special education.
Overview of the contributions of the biological and social sciences to an understanding of the mental, emotional, social, and physical development from infancy through adulthood. Study of behavior problems.
